A student in the traditional academic pathway will select courses in preparation for a career requiring a four-year college or university degree. Students in this pathway, for example, might plan to pursue a career as a physician, physical therapist, social worker, hotel manager, engineer, or lawyer, just to name a few. Students planning to enter either competive or high competitive colleges or universities will select the traditional academic pathway. A student in the technical academic pathway, also referred to as "tech prep", chooses courses which are either "advanced tech." or "career tech." This pathway is designed for students interested in careers in technology fields that may require 1-3 years of postsecondary education at a technical school, college or business school. A student in this pathway might plan to pursue a career in any of a number of technical fields including drafting, welding, carpentry, law enforcement, broadcast technology, child care, and many others.
A hallmark of the high school is intensive scheduling, where classes meet in 86-minute blocks daily for a semester rather than shorter year-long periods. This system has many benefits for our students. With the longer periods, students can focus on more in-depth explorations of subjects to achieve better understanding. Students also have the opportunity for added hands-on
experiences and active participation. Furthermore, intensive scheduling
promotes interdisciplinary approaches to material and a greater variety
of teaching strategies. Palmyra Area High School is proud to be a Renaissance School. Our extensive connections with the community allow unique opportunities for our students. Palmyra
Area High School, accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges
and Secondary Schools, completes our students' strong education by focusing
on each student's future. "Pathways" allow students to tailor
their course work to their future career plans. In order to graduate,
each student must complete his or her chosen pathway-- traditional academic
or technical academic. 
A
variety of classes allow students at all levels to select challenging
courses. Over 20 Advanced Placement and Honors courses provide advanced
academic offerings for our students. Courses in music art and physical
education broaden students' educational experiences.
The
staff, facilities and activities are additional strengths of Palmyra
Area High School. To support and assist students, the high school has
a Principal, Assistant Principal, Dean of Students and three guidance counselors in addition to
a staff of dedicated, skilled teachers. Among the highlights of the facilities
are four computer labs - three for instruction and one for independent
student use. Beyond academics and the classroom, Palmyra Area High School
offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities for students, including
an active student government, numerous clubs and extracurricular activities,
and a full range of interscholastic sports.
